Castlemere Children’s Academy has proved to be a huge success as the numbers have increased overwhelmingly. The need for out of school hours learning and additional curriculum support for the predominantly Asian children/youth of the Milkstone and Deeplish Ward of Rochdale was identified after learning about the disappointing results and below national average performance in Key stage 3&4, Assessment level SATS and GCSE exams for the past few years.
The Children’s Academy during 2007–08 enrolled over 80 pupils, ranging from year 7 to year 11 and covered the 4 identified target subjects of Maths, English, Science and ICT, taught by 4 fully qualified teachers.
The classes are run on weekends between 10am and 1pm and are very well attended.
